Statement of IntentThe Beginning
This panel of pregnancy and newborn images developed when my daughter, who suffers from bi-polar disorder, became pregnant whilst still studying at college.
Seeing the distress and upset that my daughter went through and listening more closely to my customer's experiences made me think about my pregnancy photography in a different way!
I wanted to put together a panel of images which represented the true feelings of these women who have lost babies, gone through the pain of IVF and couples who have used a donor or surrogate. For many couples pregnancy has not been an easy path.
Using the various props helped me tell their story, making the overall appearance of the panel to be dark and contrasty, and by adding a warm tone I could bring out the love and softness, which is also present.
This panel has taken me over two years to complete and has been a roller coaster of emotions along the way, developing considerably as my knowledge increased.
I hope you all enjoy this panel as much I have putting it together.
