My greatest strengths: I'm lucky to have a pretty balanced mix of practical and creative skills, including a good artistic eye (so people tell me), and I'm able to create a rapport with clients so they can relax in front of the camera. I have been in photography: I was given my first camera in my early teens, and I've been photographing ever since. In terms of making images for clients, Light Touch started life as TN4Productions in 2010, and we set up the people side of the business a few years later. How I got started in photography: My first camera was an old Box Brownie, given to me by my father, and we used to develop the black and white films in my bedroom with the curtains drawn. Professionally, I began making images soon after getting together with Rick, my business and life partner, in 2010, when I acquired my first semi-professional camera. My photographic skills: My artistic skills complement my partner's technical skills very well, and I'm good at spotting an image where others might not. I'm a quick learner, so acquiring new camera or lens equipment, or new IT programs for image manipulation, isn't a problem for me. My personality: Relaxed, friendly, helpful and cheerful. Geographic areas I cover: Tunbridge Wells, Kent and surrounding area to usually about 20 miles, so Tonbridge, Crowborough, Paddock Wood, Sevenoaks, etc are included. Venues I frequently attend: Many different places! In particular, we love All Saints Church in Crowborough, as there are so many lovely backdrops and plenty of space for a large wedding crowd. For portraiture, we really enjoy creating environmental shots, including in the Victorian graveyard close to where we live - it has so many options for the look and feel of the finished image! I found inspiration from: Anything and everything! I also do crafts (mostly knitting and crochet) and I'm just starting to do artwork, so I may take ideas from things I see in craft magazines, on websites, Pinterest - and of course, the Societies' magazine. Success in photography: I haven't entered many images to competitions, but I was the winner of one called Trees in Kent in 2008, and my second entry was also shortlisted. Nature, landscape and wildlife is where I started my photography, and the images I submitted were taken in my local park where I lived in Maidstone. My prize was a hot-air balloon ride, and I suddenly acquired a whole raft of 'new best friends'! Photographic training: Nothing formal, just lots of videos, critiques, reading, seminars, photography shows etc. My interests outside photography: Outside of the studio or wedding venue etc, I love writing (I have several collections of short stories for sale on Amazon, and one full-length novel); crafting, with items and knitting patterns available on my website and Etsy at Embrace Crafts; and holistic therapies (as Embrace Healing) - I have qualifications in 14 different therapies, as I'm endlessly fascinated by the many ways in which people can heal. For my 'day job', as photography is a part-time business, I'm a secretary and administrator with over 30 years' experience. Major events: I've been married but never had children, though I have three nephews. Now divorced, I'm happily engaged to my business partner at Light Touch Photography, Rick Leslie. Testimonials: Excellent service and brilliant quality of photography. They came to do a shoot with my daughter and were able to get some really awesome pictures of her, lovely, natural photos. Why I like the SWPP: So far, I've mostly engaged via reading the magazine. There's inspiration and education in every edition, and many of the published images make me itch to get out there with my camera! I'm also enjoying working on images to submit, both to the monthly competitions and towards eventual qualification. Tagline: Fun, friendly, fabulous photography! Future plans: Keep taking the pictures! Seriously, the only way to improve is to keep reading, watching, learning and doing, and I always aim to improve. I also hope to gain qualification with The Societies.
