Venue History: The childhood home of Henry VIII, Eltham Palace was once an important royal palace, though of the original buildings, only the magnificent medieval Great Hall remains today.
In the 1930s, it was chosen by society millionaires Stephen and Virginia Courtauld as the location for their imaginative and innovative art deco mansion. The most influential designers of the period created a series of elegant rooms, reminiscent of Hollywood-style glamour. They also cleverly incorporated the surviving Great Hall.
