Following an invitation by Adobe South Africa, it was back on our travels again, this time visiting Cape Town and Johannesburg for 'Adobe Live in Convert', a super event giving us the chance to get to know some of the Adobe international lecture team. In return, we sponsored top USA lecturer Jane Connor-zisser who played a major part in the event with inspirational lectures on retouching and Photoshop techniques.
Then it was off to Norway for more member visits and a chance to fly the flag for the 2008 Convention and also to explore the feasibility of lecturing there in 2008.
It was then a chance to catch up in the summer months back in the office and rack up the marketing for the 2008 Convention and finalise the speaker schedule.
Still, it wasn't long before we were off on our travels again (this time though by ferry) to Ireland for the Irish Trade Show weekend with guest speakers Mark Laurie from Canada, digital expert Tom Lee, Ireland's Podge Kelly, UK's John Henshaw and Bob Campbell from OnOne Software. A popular weekend only interrupted by the disappointment of our rugby teams (Wales and Ireland both lost).
Mark Laurie then continued to lecture around the UK with his popular talk on female photography. Demonstrating how you can create evocative stylish images of females who are not 'page three' models and run a profitable business by doing so.
It was then back to Dubai as guests of Adobe along with Jane Connor-zisser to lecture at Gitex, a six-day show with 1000s of attendees and the opportunity to meet and greet from the Adobe stand.
Back in the UK it was off to London to exhibit at Mac Expo - a first time for us at this event and an opportunity to launch some new book titles. Interestingly, while the Adobe books went down well as expected, the new 'art photography' books proved a big success.
Then back to Manchester airport for the final time; we travelled to Malta this 28 UK and Irish members for our joint event with the MIPP. Three days of lectures with top speakers such as Eileen Masson, Bill Johnson, Alan Carville, Tom Lee, Dave Facey, Stephen Busuttil, Walter Barbara, Oz Kharawala and Gordon McGowan. The visit was rounded off by a 'culture' trip to the green island of Gozo. However, Gordon McGowan and our team didn't make that particular trip as we departed to Cyprus to run our first ever seminar on the island.
The attendances in both Malta and Cyprus were terrific with Gordon not only showing his work but giving ' lightening fast' Photoshop tips and techniques, and 'hands-on' posing demonstrations.
If this doesn't sound hectic enough then we have also exhibited at numerous events around the UK and Ireland such as the GF Smith Roadshows, Nikon Solutions, 1st Cameras, etc.
So now it's back to the office to get ready for 2008 when we start all over again!
There are 21 days to get ready for The Society of Photographers Convention and Trade Show at The Novotel London West, Hammersmith ...
which starts on Wednesday 15th January 2025
