Around the Show
For this writer, the opportunities to get around the stands are rather limited and the Trade Show usually generates a feeling of frustration over things that have been missed. This is true perhaps for all visitors who arrive with a specific agenda of things to check out - you can find that every time you stop by to see somebody they are surrounded by a gaggle of punters! So here are just a few of the things we did see.
Dave Meadows mentioned that a visit to see Richard Curtis presenting in the Adobe booth was worthwhile and by chance I caught his final session of the week. The topic was using Timeline in Photoshop to create and edit movies - wow what an eye opener that was! With the trend towards the use of fusion and inserted movie clips in wedding videos it is something that all social photographers should be aware of. To be honest it was a feature that had completely passed me by when it was launched with CS6 - there always seems to be something that gets away, that's why you need to attend shows and seminars! Richard showed the editing of a movie including adding and synchronising of music, frame-to-frame masking of an unwanted intruder walking into the scene and the use of global Smart Object colour adjustments and filtration across chosen clips of the movie. Nothing that can be done in written form comes close to explaining the potential and so the reader is directed to Richard's blog where it is fully explained.
The demise of Ilford is discussed in Paper Chase in this issue, including the response to the situation from PermaJet. At the Convention Fotospeed were also showcasing their like-for-like replacements of both Smooth Pearl and Gold Fibre Silk and we will report on these in detail in the next issue. Also on the paper front Tecco had their excellent display of papers and images along with a very chic 'Starter Kit' which comes in a sliding-draw box, filled with their art range of papers - just the ticket if you need to show clients paper options during an initial interview.
Tom Lee was hard at work shooting on the ReflecMedia stand demonstrating the green screen kit in real time - people were surprised at just how easy it all was!
