Why is The Societies of Photographers Convention such a big deal for photographers? Is it primarily about the chance to learn from the experiences of imaging icons?
I think just having so many creative and inspirational people in one place helps, to me the judging is what is the best bit of the convention. The absolute impartiality and integrity of the whole judging procedure is impressive. Seeing the images, listening to various opinions and critiques is just mind blowing and you get to learn so much more than you could ever learn at any workshop. I am so lucky and honoured to be a judge and its one of the parts of the convention I love the most.

Your own mentors (living or dead)?
All my icons, mentors generally are not wedding photographers, why, I just want to create my own style and I see so many photographers whose work just looks like their mentors. My biggest inspiration is Rembrandt, when I started to learn lighting I was shown ‘Rembrandt lighting’ and this turned into my favorite type of lighting so I then looked up Rembrandt and was just blown away with his vision, creativity and just the beauty of his work. There is a lot of Rembrandt clues in many of my signature images. Every visit to the convention is not complete without a visit to the National Portrait Gallery.

Who today is leading the way in creative social photography and why?
Me, You, Everybody…. We all are pushing the industry we love forward

If you could pick just FIVE seminars (other than your own of course!) to attend at The Societies of Photographers Convention whose workshop would you attend?
1. 20x16 Judging
2. 20x16 Judging day 2
3. Kenny Kim
4. Greg Moment
5. Mine…. Well I had to get it in didn’t I!

What do you think will be the next big thing in the industry?
I feel that print will make a huge comeback, with so many fine art papers and printing techniques I feel that now to be different and stand out from the crowd then a beautifully shot, framed, fine art print is what the discerning client will start to demand

Would you want your own children to take up the reins of your empire (or have they)?
No, after being photographed against their will when they where growing up its easy to say they wont be joining us.

Your plans for the next five years?
Just to carry on enjoying my hobby/job. My photography journey has allowed me to travel and meet the most amazing people along the way, many I now call close friends. I have been so lucky and if I have to make a plan its to make more new friends and travel to destinations I haven’t yet visited.
