Next we moved across into the centre of the South Bank Plaza and with the sun setting captured the moodiness of the clouds together with Jade, surrounded by the office blocks. One Quadra over to her right and one to the left gave modelling on her body. My trusty, and battered 18-70 kit lens did the job giving a nice wide view.
We explored a lot of different locations using blends of available light and flash. That's what makes the Safari so exciting for me, always something different to be used.
Boudoir then took me through to Sunday. Jade made a great double act in both Master and Super Classes. We used the natural light of the Octagon Suite together with flash, modelling lamp and a new toy, the Lowel GL1 Video light. All proved useful tools.
We also used the large window in my room (right top). The strong backlighting coming through was excellent and the long, low window ledge a perfect posing platform for Jade. It certainly provided entertainment for the workers on the building site across the street!
One feature of the Octagon Suite that couldn't be ignored was the bath tub. A large white tub set in a raised, black marble plinth. There were lots of ways it could be used but I wanted something a little different. A quick trip to Tesco Express provided four boxes of Coffee Mate. Our helper Paul proved adept at getting the right temperature and consistency in the bath. One flash aimed at the ceiling provided nice orbital light and the rest involved standing at the tap end and leaning over to get as vertically above Jade as possible. Testament to a top model that they'd lie there making shapes whilst a dozen photographers all take turns to stand in Position A to get the picture.
Sunday finished with a Masterclass on marketing. I was still squiffy from night before, as convinced myself I had to finish by noon, and then had a half-hour bonus. Then it was a quick run to the Superclass on dance. A first for me at Convention and was well received by another full house. Loretta was my buddy on this one and proved herself hard as nails as she whirled, twirled, balanced on her hands and ended up dowsed in flour and white over. A great end to a great week. Do you think if we all asked nicely that nice Mrs Jones would let us all get together and do it again next year?
