The lessons learnt?
Loyalty is important!
Is it getting harder or easier to make a decent living?
I wouldn’t say it harder or easier, but that you have to look at what makes your business and what your business needs are. The marketplace is always changing, it will be different in two years than it is today. You need to be able to change and adapt to those changes and not look at it as being harder or easier…never look at something as being easy and that will lead to complacency.
How do you stay ahead of the game?
I try to always be planning ahead and shooting projects for the areas I want to get into. Looking at new and innovative ways to use my skills.
How do organisations such as The Societies of Photographers help?
The SWPP has been immense in my development as a photographer. When I first joined I was a shockingly bad photographer. But, my passion for wanting to win competitions and improve drove me to get better. The SWPP’s competitions, qualifications, and mentoring were absolutely key in me becoming a not as shockingly bad photographer. :D
Why is The Societies of Photographers Convention such a big deal for photographers?
For me it’s the wealth of knowledge available in all of the classes. The opportunity to get information from amazing photographers is amazing.
Is it primarily about the chance to learn from the experiences of imaging icons?
Absolutely
Your own mentors (living or dead)?
Richard P Walton was the first photographer’s who’s work I saw when I first joined that grabbed me. He hates me saying it, but I still look up to Richie and his skills as a photographer. Outside of Richie, I love people like Tim Tadder and Joey Lawrence.
Who today is leading the way in creative social photography and why?
If you could pick just FIVE seminars (other than your own of course!) to attend at The Societies of Photographers Convention whose workshops would you attend?
Kevin Mullins - even though I don’t shoot weddings, his ability to capture candid moments is second to none
Christina Lauder - her child portraits are works of art!
Richard P Walton - Everything Richie touches turns to gold!
Terrie Jones The Judges Round Table - For anyone wanting to understand the competitions, this is a must attend
James Musslewhite - His wrestler portraits are amazing!
There are 0 days to get ready for The Society of Photographers Convention and Trade Show at The Novotel London West, Hammersmith ...
which starts on Thursday 1st January 1970
