Why photography?
The tragic death of a Siberian husky puppy, and the events surrounding it, made me realise that your loved ones can be with you today, and then a second later they’re not.

Film or digital? Is there still a place for silver halide?
Both

Which camera?
The Dark side of course… NIKON.

Bit of detail about your own studio set-up/staffing. Why (as a customer) would I choose you?
First of all, when I was at photography school, everyone wanted to learn about weddings or fashion, I wanted something different and when I got my photo-essay assignment for photojournalism class, I decided to do it on a story that involved rescuing a pet from an abusive situation. I couldn’t go with the story in the end because of the court and legal issues involved, so I tried a different approach I did it on working dogs. I choose to work my photo-essay on service dogs for the disabled after a month working with them I ended up been their photographer, and that’s when I decided to go with Pet Photography.

The problem with professional photographers today is...
Their ego. I can’t stand the fact that there are still Photographers that compare themselves to others that have had more “celeb” status or achievements renowned by the public instead of celebrating them, taking them as a learning experience and taking empowerment from them.

What’s the worst commercial error you have made to date?
Leaving important things until last.

How did you rectify the mistake?
Changing the habit and prioritising my tasks and activities.

The lessons learnt?
Never leave the important things for last!

Is it getting harder or easier to make a decent living?
I think its neither easier nor harder, sometimes there are lows and highs and you just need to learn how to manage them.

How do you stay ahead of the game?
I am always looking for new things to improve my skills and the way I do business.

How do organisations such as The Societies of Photographers help?
It has helped me in a lot of ways, from doing networking, to knowing the trends in different countries.

Why is The Societies of Photographers Convention such a big deal for photographers?
It is a way to take a “holiday” and see new things, learn new skills, and meet new like-minded people.

Is it primarily about the chance to learn from the experiences of imaging icons?
Sometimes you can learn just as much from new names as from icons.
