Grandpa's Workshop by the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark ll. Eight-shot interpolation
And now - something really new!
The image above comes courtesy of Olympus and Damian McGillicuddy. It was shot on a pre-production Olympus M5 MkII (see also Damian's regular feature in this issue). The unique feature of the image is its size. It was shot eight times in quick succession by a moving sensor, followed by interpolation of the eight data sets to create a JPEG image that is 9,216 pixels wide.
At magazine reproduction resolution of 300ppi this delivers a 31.7-inch picture without interpolation in printing! This is way too large for the magazine and so we show a scaled down version of the full image and two 10cm crops at 300ppi resolution. Overall this is an impressive piece of technology and we look forward to taking a closer look in due course.
