A Happy New year to you all and welcome to our pre-Focus issue of professional Imagemaker. The Convention has come and gone - by most reckoning an outstanding success and the team are already hard at work refining the format for 2008, which is to be at the same venue. The Novotel staff were superb and we already know of one big company who will be staying there when they work at Olympia from now on!
Our 60 lecturers did us proud with attendances ranging from overflowing (Shembri, Ghionis,1 Williams et al) to very intimate little groups (McNamee). However this is the point, the smaller groups got more focussed attention and more time for questions, so everybody came away happy. As ever, the bar was were a significant amount of learning and exchange of views took place. The Olympus team treated us to a master class in the mixing of B52s and the necking thereof - can a cocktail have ever been gulped down a prettier neck, we ask?
The Mentor Me and the 20x16 competitions were a great success, the former being well subscribed and the latter receiving a strong entry - the highscorers that were placed on view were a delight to browse through. The Business School was packed for the duration and many appreciative comments were forthcoming on its format and success. Some of the new ventures (eg make-up, monochrome landscape) were well-received encouraging us in our quest to broaden the content of the lecturing curriculum.
We even managed a few firsts, with the Fuji S5 being passed around and a wide format 12-ink Hewlett Packard purring away in the basement. Anything you missed you can catch up on a Focus -call and see us, we are at out usual place, convenient to the conveniences.
