Editorial - June-August 2005 - part 1 of 1

Welcome to the largest issue of Professional Imagemaker yet! As part of the SWPP/BPPA response to the ever-increasing membership we have gone out to 100 pages, jam-packed the features and articles from all around the UK and the rest of the world.

In case you had not noticed we have also implemented a change to Adobe InDesign as our magazine layout software. This change went very smoothly; other publications we know employed SWAT teams of up to eight people to assist with the changeover, more than we have on the total staff! We did it all on our own, with a little help from an Adobe seminar delivered by Convention 2005 speakers, Chris Kitchener and Terry Steeley. As well as InDesign we have also implemented a copy-editing review procedure with Everything Write, using Acrobat - hopefully there will be a lot less typos now, although I still take full responsibility for any that creep through. As we get more confident with the layout process we will be trying some of the newer, fancy features from InDesign. We are also working hard to perfect the accuracy of the colour reproduction. We are well short of being able to afford full-colour proofing but with the vastly superior colour management of the Adobe system (which includes Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat) we are hoping to do even better. The seminar team has been frantically busy since the convention and has covered the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland. This is reflected in the beefed up members' pages but remember that there are some fantastic speakers yet to arrive on our shores - so don't miss out - book early!

The residential courses with Bambi Cantrell were a roaring success. I went along to Llangollen to say hello and kick the tyres of the Epson 4000 that Epson kindly provided and to profile up the Permajet papers that were being used. Everybody was having a good time, even though Bambi is a hard taskmistress and loads of cracking images were being made of the gorgeous American models (girls and boys, take your pick!). An added bonus, Tom Lee even bagged a cover for me! Her plane had barely taken off when Monte Zucker's landed!

I hope your wedding season is profitably into full swing, keep clicking!
