Editorial - October-November 2008 - part 1 of 1

by Mike McNamee Published 01/10/2008

Originally this editorial was slated in to be a rant about 'job's worths'. You know the type, the ones who appear out of nowhere and inform you 'you can't take pictures here!' They have, in recent years been provided with additional clout (as they see it) and so all demands to cease photography are now prefaced with the dreaded 'antiterrorism' qualifying clause. This in spite of the fact that their request are frequently illegal and there is not a shred of evidence to suggest that terrorists do anything other than research targets on say Google Earth. The movie image of the jackal-like assassin watching the image appear in the developing dish is just that, a fantasy movie image. Meantime the rest of us are being impeded in our legitimate endeavours. Job's worths come in all shapes and sizes (but usually small brains on larger bodies) but just remember you are at liberty to take photographs in public places with only minor constraints, if they take your media card that is theft.

But enough of that, the editorial content was superseded by the decision to change the structure of the Society, partly driven by the desire to specifically target individual market sectors, especially in terms of 'hits' on the websites. Having a more targeted approach allows more targeted key wording so that the member's name pops out higher up the order from the search engine. Keeping our member's names high in this list is a key objective of the web team.
