Mike did urge me to view the HiD as he thought it was better, on this occasion I didn't listen. I'd done the maths and worked out that this would give me the enlargements I needed and a quality I liked, however, it was also a third the price of its competitors, that also was a big plus point.... Magic!!!!
There was no problem in wanting it but a big one in getting it, there where none to be had anywhere in the UK.
Not being the patient type I got mine from Germany.
The strength of the pound made it that little bit cheaper too.
I now had my "input" sorted; time to look at "output". I was about to go down the "third party" ink route as my mate Chris had already done with his EX but to be honest looking at the aggro Chris had, I was far from keen. In hind site and to be fair, the problems Chris faced seemed fairly unique..... I often wonder if he's the Worlds most unlucky bloke (I suppose he must be to have a mate like me!!!!!). Any way just before I jumped I spoke to the GREAT Barrie Thomas (Guru of all things digital), he suggested I hold on to my cash as the would imminently be an OEM Epson with excellent longevity. I waited, it arrived, I bought the 1270!
The bare bones of my digital system where now in place. In the next part of the report I'll outline how the equipment came together, its technical specs and what was needed to make good equipment produce great results. Credible digital solution and still change over from £1700, can't be bad.
Quick note: Just a swift thanks to those who have contacted me directly to say how much they've enjoyed my disjointed dialogue (you mad fool's!!!); and no it wasn't just my Mum that rang. You'll also notice (if Phil's got it right of course) my "test" image pictures with this article. Obviously our mag reproduction doesn't do 'em justice. So, if your so inclined if you send me an s.a.e. I'll mail some "output" direct to you.
I can be contacted on 07715 101840.
Till next time.....
