FujiFilm S1 Pro The Future is here - part 1 of 1 2 3 4 5 6

Last September I managed to get hold of one of the new Fuji FinePix S1 Pro cameras in order that I might at last go completely digital in the studio and location work which I do. At a cost of over £2000 (body only + IBM microdrive) would it prove the digital age had fi nally arrived???

The camera body is basically a Nikon F60 model which has been adapted to take Fuji's new CCD in place of the film together with a redesigned interior so that a CFII and/or Smartmedia cards can be stored, plus extra room for the various batteries which the camera needs for its operations.

The camera can use any Nikon D type auto lens and I opted to go for a Tokina ATX 17mm f3.5 lens for wide angle work, a Tokina ATX 28-70 f2.8 for studio and wedding work and a Tamron 28-200 f3.5/5.6 lens for more telephoto/general work.

The characteristics of the CCD mean that the effective focal length of the lens is 1.5x that of its 35mm fi lm equivalent - which is great news for slightly to long telephoto shots (75mm lens becomes a 105mm lens) but can be a pain for ultra wide angle work where my 17mm lens becomes a 25mm one. The solution is quite simple though - for wide angle interior shots, simply switch to a 35mm fi lm body and you have the 17mm lens working at 17mm.
