ArcSoft
US software specialist ArcSoft has recently released two new products. Portrait+ is specifically designed for professional photographers while Perfect 365 is described as being for both photographers and 'photography lovers'. Both products' functions and retouching options run roughly along the same lines, except that the pro option in Portrait+ can batch import and retouch photos as an added time saver for stressed professionals. If buying direct from ArcSoft at the time of writing pricing is $179.99 for Portrait+ and $59.99 for Perfect365. To go with this article, however, ArcSoft is offering the added incentive of $20 off Portrait+ for Societies' members.
Feedback on Portrait+ has been positive, to say the least, with one forum post stating the following: "I've just run some tests on a particularly 'awkward' portrait and to be honest the ease of use and the final results are, to say the least, very impressive. The whole system is brilliant and there's no need to create custom styles as, to be honest, the program already has it all covered."
US-based photographer Anne Dorthe Landry of Anne Landry Photography, Virginia, professes herself another satisfied customer. "I find ArcSoft's applications extremely easy to use - quite a number are tailormade for professional photographers," Anne notes. "To be able to batch process photos with pre-set templates is helpful. Before that I used to spend too much time on manually retouching photos for portrait shoots.
Another point is that the facial feature detection is precise enough so manual adjustment is rarely needed, which saves time as well."
Anne believes that for fellow photographers to buy into the idea, they just need to try it. "Guys who want to improve their productivity will realise the value of Portrait+," she reasons. "For those whose workload is not that heavy but are still considering manually retouching photos, Perfect365 would be more suitable. I've tried that one too as it's three times cheaper, and the difference is that it doesn't support the batch function.
"Personally, I think ArcSoft's solutions are worth the money. For me, time is money. I can now produce more photos than before and spend some time on other things like marketing."
