Before presenting the completed album to the client, Howard makes a point of going through each photograph with them to make sure that they are totally happy with the product they are getting. This as well as the trans-viewing - which the clients love to see, goes a long way to ensuring the client will come back for other family occasions and will spread his reputation as a good professional photographer

Howard uses Hasselblad with the 2¼" square format, which he backs up with spare bodies and lenses. He uses Mecablitz flashes and has portable studio lights but does not have much call to use them these days. Howard offers a wide variety of styles of photograph; from traditional and casual through to candid, full colour, monochrome and sepia tone and he is now looking into working with Photoshop and all the wide range of varieties that it offers.

As the photography profession bends towards the Digital age, although Howard will not be one of its pioneers he will be in the frame and keep up to date with the demands of his clients.

Quality is obviously very important to Howard but the most important thing is the attitude he portrays to the client. There is no point being a genius with a camera and turning out prize-winning shots if your clients hate you. When people go to book their wedding photographer 9 out of 10 will go for the professional with the friendly attitude and friendly manner rather than the one without. In short sell yourself.

Howard is now expanding his business - on the Internet. As he freely admits, he is not computer literate but feels he needs to be forward thinking. He has his own web site that is proving to be very successful as far as business goes, as it means that people who have moved out of the area but are planning to marry in their hometown are able to contact him and view his work.

During our interview with Howard, there were three enquiries for weddings, he was also preparing to interview 2 separate clients that evening and another client came to collect the album. Business is obviously booming.
