Here’s how it turned out:
You can see how the man and woman are distant and detached, so much so that the man is infatuated with his photo of Rita Hayworth when he has his very own, very real and gorgeous wife waiting for him in the next room. And there he stands, pining after an artificial substitute rather than the real thing in the adjacent room.
Perhaps now you can understand why David’s photographs have won awards, and why his creativity is inspiring others.
What Others Are Saying
Jacqueline Tobin - Editor-in-Chief of Rangefinder magazine says, "David's Old Masters' series never ceases to amaze and inspire me. The timelessness of his scenes is truly incredible when you think about how he is creating scenes from centuries back that still have a foothold in today's society. His use of light and shadow, and the depth and skill of every detail, just takes my breath away.
All of his images are so beautifully tactile, painterly and stir up fond memories of my time spent lingering in front of masterpieces hanging on museum walls all over the world.
What David is doing with his photography is storytelling on multiple levels. He’s telling a story to members of our family or someone else’s family about what’s important in life. Each portrait has a whole story behind it regarding the idea and how it comes together and he creates it. Then there’s the story of the related art, whether it’s literature or the work of a master painter, or just a feeling from an artist’s entire body of work.
