Hair

Stray hairs should not encroach over the eyes.

Look closely at your subjects and if the hair is messy then simply suggest that your subject tidies it up. A more tactful approach with women is to ask them if they are happy with their hair. A mirror to hand is therefore an essential studio accessory.

Have hair spray, clips, hair bands and bobbles to hand in the studio

Cropping

Crop Between the joints, not At them

Expressions

Remember that people look best when they are happy.

Therefore it is essential to engage your subjects to create a pleasing expression.

Smile and be happy when working with your subjects and your effervescent nature will soon be displayed in your subjects.

Happy expressions are universally and easily recognized, and are interpreted as conveying messages related to enjoyment, pleasure, a positive disposition, and friendliness

A smiling person is thought to be a more pleasant, attractive, sociable, sincere and competent than a non-smiling person.

These tips just cover some of the basics - the Societies offer members a compressive mentoring programme, images will receive a report along with helpful suggestions on how to take images to the next level.
