So what this means is you need to have a plan in place to elevate your worth in order to become successful:
- Become the expert. Start by learning as much as you can about really good lighting and the craft of photography. Read a book, take a course and practise, practise, practise. Learn how to see the light, how to manipulate it and shoot in manual mode only. Enter print competitions and seek honest feedback (constructive criticism will push you to do better).
- Design systems. Create a client workflow that takes your prospects down a system that turns them into paying customers. You repeat the same steps over and over, so instead of wasting time how about systemising it? Make notes on what you want your customers to know about you and how you do business. Must they know that you expect session fees paid up front, or must they know they have to come back for an ordering appointment etc? Eliminate misconceptions and misunderstandings.
- Under promise and over deliver. Break away from being a commodity by offering your clients a really fabulous experience. Think about what services you can offer to make them fall in love with your brand. Providing what you promised isn't enough anymore, you have to go above and beyond to impress. Think about the small details like offering what-to-wear guides, hand-written thank-you notes, birthday cards with a gift with purchase, pretty packaging, fast turnaround service.
Do whatever floats your boat and suits your style and be prepared for a change in your bottom line. When you totally wow your clients, they can't help but gush about you and the river of prosperity will start to flow!
So believe in yourself, you are worth it. Don't doubt your dreams. You can do what you love and be paid for living it!
