Regular readers of my writings will know that I regularly give thanks for the amazing places my camera takes me to and for the wonderful people I meet. Never was this more true than at the beginning of April when I left for my longest, and most exotic, trip yet.
It had all started in the glamorous surroundings of a Premier Inn near Birmingham whilst I was speaking at Focus. I was having dinner with the team from The Flash Centre. Elinchrom president Malcolm Whittle was over from Switzerland and collared me after dinner.
"Would you fancy a trip to Taiwan to demonstrate lighting for us?" Now that's a question and a half and the obvious answer didn't take long to find, "Yes, when?" Later that night and shaking slightly with excitement I tapped into Google Earth to find out just where Taiwan actually was!
So it was that, after many months of swapping emails with a contact in Taiwan, my regular sidekick Jade and I drove down to Heathrow. We were both nervous. Normally when I fly somewhere I have an idea of where I'm going, what I'll be doing, who I'll be meeting. This time, although I had names of people and places and had done as much research as possible I really felt like I was venturing into the unknown. A totally new country to me, new culture, new language ... talk about being out of your comfort zone!
It all started simply enough though. A flight to that largest of interchanges, Schipol in Amsterdam. We arrived around 11pm and had a long wait, until 5pm the next afternoon for our next flight.
