Just after going to press with the previous issue of Imagemaker, Photo Training Overseas were advised of an enforced flight change to Lanzarote, which effectively changed the course dates for next January. The new dates are now 31 January-7 February 2013.
The organisers are extremely excited about next year's PTO with an interesting mix of subjects from a talented tutor line-up covering a wide variety of subject matter whilst still concentrating on people photography. The line-up includes :
STUART BEBB an experienced award-winning wedding photographer who over the years has managed to re-invent himself thereby enabling him to keep up with current trends and fashions in wedding photography, a necessary ingredient in the ever-challenging market place. Stuart currently majors on a documentary style and often includes meaningful objects in his images; he is a good communicator and is always willing to share his ideas and expertise - a necessary ingredient for a PTO speaker!
MARC HUNTINGTON although a mainly self-taught photographer who had a fascination with photography from an early age whilst enjoying his passion for being involved in extreme sporting activities; it was a natural progression to then want to photograph some of the dangers and excitement encountered in many of the fast dangerous sporting activities he enjoyed being involved in. Marc will extol the virtues; the dos sand the don'ts for those adventurous enough to want to explore the possibilities of this unusual area of professional photography.
SU KAYE a primary school teacher in her former career which pre-empted what was to many a certain inevitability of following in the footsteps of her legendary father, the great London-based but world-renowned portrait photographer Paul Kaye. The remarkable difference, however,, is in their styles and approaches to portraiture. Whilst Paul was the superb, classical perfectionist, working in his studio or in magnificent palaces or homes photographing heads of state, rich Arab oil sheiks and royalty, Su has a completely opposite laid back informal approach to her work. She prefers to work without any lights - using the natural God-given great outdoor natural lighting with a contemporary approach and feel for her work. Su has 'Fellowships' in both Portraiture and Illustrative photography so varied are her talents.
NICOLA SELBY a former professional dancer turned specialist dance photographer is in great demand for her dynamic approach to dance photography, working with some of the best talents in the business, she has been featured on a Channel 4 documentary and was invited to photograph the Moscow Ballet Company so high is she held in esteem and high regard. Nicola is always looking for something different by creating new poses which must demonstrate vitality.
DAVID A. STANBURY born and bred in Wigan in the North West of England - an area that has traditionally produced some of the finest wedding photographers in the country - David as a proud Lancastrian is acutely aware of these traditions which may be why he maintains an element of tradition in his stunning, classical wedding photography. Working with his wife and business partner Jane, together they produce some magnificent award-winning images which have to be seen to be believed, they have a tremendous and infectious passion for their work which is reflected in their stunning images.
RICHARD P. WALTON a recent proud Fellow of the SWPP is a law to himself with his head-turning images which to many include an element of symbolism. He works mainly in the areas of fashion and urban portraits but what makes Richard different is that he is always looking 'outside the box' to produce something that has not been done before; he is a creative young talent who has in infectious enthusiasm for his art. Operating out of the valleys of South Wales his modern approach takes him all over the country; he is an accomplished tutor already despite his comparatively tender years.
THE YERBURY'S probably need little introduction - Trevor is classed as the UK's doyen of 'Art Nude Photography' and has won many accolades for this work and also his wedding photography and portraiture, in fact the Yerbury's have had many commissions from specialist organisations together with many national and international exhibitions. They are both acknowledged international judges and well known within the industry. Although Trevor works in all formats his preferred option is to use a 10"x8" camera such is his desire for the ultimate image. On this occasion he will major on his classical art nude work and Faye his wife and business partner will demonstrate her sensuous boudoir photography. Faye was formerly a hairdresser and stylist in the studio before she became a full-time professional photographer and whilst they normally work together on all projects they are more than capable of working in isolation.
So if that line-up doesn't convince you that the only place to be from 31 January is in Lanzarote with PTO then perhaps the myriad of extra activities may - there is a perpetual digital critique of any work you care to submit commented on by a selection of tutors with the short listed images being printed by One Vision Imaging which then forms a print exhibition of all finalists competing for the major Photo Competition trophies kindly sponsored by The Societies and presented to the winners at the legendary awards event at the end of the week. Then there is the Photo Art Competition open to all delegates which invariably attracts a large entry - this competition opens minds to new and exciting creative angles on almost anything; an AV is put together by our technical wizards and is shown at the end of the week with the winner walking away with a very good prize - last time a top-of-the-range Epson printer! In addition there is a PTO PR competition again open to all delegates where a portfolio of no fewer than
10 images are submitted to best depict a typical PTO training event - the winner of this takes home a lovely Fuji camera! If that little lot hasn't satisfied your thirst for knowledge then there is also the final day optional 'Super Master Classes' of four-hour duration by two of this year's tutors; David A. Stanbury will cover a complete wedding, whilst Su Kaye will enthral you with her superb illustrative speciality.
This action-packed week of motivation, new ideas and unlimited inspiration is topped only by the fantastic networking, socialising and lifelong friendships made on this unique annual event - so what are you waiting for, log onto www.pto-uk.com, download a booking form and come and join us!
