This gave an effective range in 35mm terms from 25.5 to 400 mm in three lenses and all top quality performers! For good measure the 60mm macro Nikkor was also obtained to provide the 1-1 capabilities lost through the 'blue circle' syndrome of my old 90mm macro lens (same make as my old 17).After all that we had a very usable system. So whats it like and has it saved time? The answer to that it is a very very nice tool to use. If you already use an F5 or F100 then the controls are simple to fathom, biggest problem is telling the D1 apart from my F5 when in a hurry!
The images at fine resolution are more than usable for reproduction in magazines, even though they are shot at just 75dpi! (more on this another time). In terms of time saved...hours and hours. In the last two weeks I have shot over 700 images for a client and it has been as simple as transferring them to my PC or Mac and cutting a CD.This task taking about 45 mins to complete instead of a whole day a few short weeks ago, and time is money!
I will next month expand on the image resolution issue and show the differences each resolution mode makes to a printed image. I will also be telling how Photoshop can assist you and why you could be wasting effort shooting in the very highest resolution mode on your digital camera. Watch this space!
