Joining to network
"I've been a member of The Societies for many years," she says, "joining up in the first place because I was so taken by the Convention, then held in Coventry. This was such a wonderful resource for photographers and a great place to network and learn from others. I first attended in 2005, and I enjoyed the whole occasion so much that I've returned every year since.
"I was honoured to be asked to speak at the Convention in 2008, nearly a year after the publication of my book, and being invited back in 2010 gave me a second opportunity to deliver a very well attended practical Superclass that looked at the whole area of low level lighting, a subject very close to my heart."
Given her love of the Convention and everything that takes place around the event it's perhaps not surprising to hear that Morag will be attending again in 2012 and this time around she's lined up to deliver both a Masterclass and a Superclass.
"My Masterclass will focus on the ins and outs of running a photographic business with good ethics and expanding and surviving in a recession," she says. "Meanwhile my Superclass this year will be a fast paced practical shoot that will concentrate on working in low light conditions using both available and added light sources and it will end with a practical night shoot in the streets around the Convention centre."
Typically Morag, who relishes the chance to mingle and network with her fellow professionals, will be enjoying every aspect of the Convention and making sure that she doesn't leave without taking full advantage of all the social and business opportunities it presents and the chance to meet new people and come across fresh and exciting products.
"I usually end up leaving the Convention with a grin on my face!" she confirms. "I think that having spoken to so many lovely people, and having met old acquaintances and made new ones, I always find myself on something of a high at the end of it all and maybe just a little hung over!
"I'll always try and attend some sessions at the Convention while I'm there and this year I'll definitely be looking to hear Art Suwansang talk again; what he doesn't know about Lightroom you could write on the back of a pixel! I also hope to catch Nick Ghionis and my good friend Jo Hansford to name but a few.
"I feel that you always learn something if you take the time to hear other photographers speak and I'll be aiming to soak up as much information and knowledge from those around me as I can while I'm at the event."
