Stuart McIntyre has been running his GP Studio for almost 10 years now And he'll be celebrating his first decade in business by explaining in his Convention seminar how to survive and flourish
As we all know, photography is not an easy business to survive in, and for those looking at setting up on their own for the first time it can be an extremely daunting experience. If you're a member of the SWPP, however, you at least have the reassurance that you aren't completely on your own and there will always be others who have been through it all before themselves who are willing to offer a helping hand and some useful first-hand advicez
In fact that's exactly what Stuart McIntyre is planning to do in his 2012 Convention seminar because, just as he did at the 2011 Convention, he'll be presenting a Masterclass on how to run a general practice studio, and it will draw on 10 years' experience of surviving and flourishing in a demanding field.
"I think that photographers should look at covering a wider range of photographic disciplines in their working week," he says. "We all know that Saturday is the day we usually make our money, but then again there are seven days in a week! At my studio, Photo Nottingham, we try to maximise each day by running different promotions at different times of the week, and we take on event and commercial assignments to fill up the diary. This talk was very popular last year, and it gives people the opportunity to ask lots of questions and often the answers come by way of discussion within the room."
Stuart is also presenting his first Superclass this year, which will be concentrating on makeover photography. "This is one of the main areas of my business," he says, and I'll be presenting it in conjunction with Zoe Melvin, who will be demonstrating hair and make-up techniques. We'll do a shoot with our model in the hotel and it will be a practical, fun and informative session where the delegates will all get the chance to shoot and ask loads of questions."
There are 21 days to get ready for The Society of Photographers Convention and Trade Show at The Novotel London West, Hammersmith ...
which starts on Wednesday 15th January 2025
