Classical Children's Portraits
At The Convention in January Martin will be leading a Masterclass on children's portraiture. 'I'll be showing the delegates the image straight from the camera, then we'll go through the entire process of creating a finished image.' During the class, Martin will discuss how clothing, background and prop choices, as well as lighting and post-production techniques, can come together to create timeless and award-winning children's portraits.
'I'm no expert in Photoshop by any means,' Martin tells me when I ask what post-production techniques he will be covering. 'I just do what I need to do! But I do spend a long time on producing images - sometimes the whole day! I'll be showing how to use layers, gradient maps, textures, and blending modes amongst other things.'
It's the first time that Martin will be speaking at The Convention, but he has taught various other seminars in the past and loves to pass on knowledge that could help others: 'I'm quite open and very approachable. I've always passed on what I know to the assistants that I've had over the years and it's nice to help other people out.' Martin also told me that the best seminars to teach are the ones where the audience fire questions at him and keep him on his toes - so make sure you come prepared at The Convention!
Martin's portrait images regularly win awards in the monthly competitions so this should be a must-see Masterclass for anyone interested in brushing up on their classical portraiture.
