Congratulations to our worthy winners and the finalists but a special thanks to all those who entered to make it such a broad-ranging competition.
As well as the finalists the judges were asked to choose a winner from the monthly 'Judges' Choices'. This was won by Tracy Willis whom we feature later in this issue.
The 16x20 Competition
The 16x20 Print Competition has evolved into one of the highlights of the Convention with a universally high standard and great interest from both the 'public' and entrants alike. The scoring and adjudication is carried out in open session and comments are invited for almost every print when the public are present and for all Nouveau prints. Feedback suggests that this is greatly appreciated by all those viewing the process and the hung exhibition always causes lots of interest during the Trade Show.
This year the process was revamped with new judges who have been trained and mentored in the year(s) following the award of their Fellowships in their specialist subjects. Three rooms were employed so that the process could be conducted at a slightly more leisurely pace and the viewing seating was also expanded. Each room was allocated a 'team' from the 38 judges present and this 'team' were esponsible for selecting the sub-category winners which eventually went before the assembled cohort of eligible judges. Judges with an interest or association in any finalist print were excluded from the final deliberations and the print authors remained anonymous throughout the entire process. No judge ever marked or commented upon their own work. The final judging panel was therefore whittled down from 38 to 24.
