Having produced and edited the images, a lot of thought was also given to the presentation. I experimented with many fine art papers and eventually settled on Somerset Velvet printed on my Epson 3800 with the prints presented on museum mounts.
I retired from my previous career last year and already have several exciting projects and opportunities in the pipeline, and I feel very privileged and honoured to receive my award from the Societies.
Prospective fellowship applicants should take careful note of the way this panel was conceived, executed and presented. There is an overall cohesion of tone-scale with similar treatment of the graded-colour backdrop. Stylistically, the use of the same model with one dress for the top row and another darker costume for the bottom row adds weight to the base but cements the view right across the panel. The photographic style is unusual, inventive and consistently employed to generate a sense of individual style. The choice of Somerset Velvet as the printing media increased the artistic feel of the panel and handled the delicate pastel tones really well (we understand the Somerset Velvet was chosen after exhaustive trial printing, involving dozens of papers). Overall then it is hardly surprising that the adjudication panel were so impressed; it is quite rare for a unanimous 'thumbs up' to be given, but this one got it! Ed
