Simply Slip-in Albums - part 1 of 1

Following a hectic time at Focus-on-Imaging this year it was nice to find some little gems amongst the plethora of trade saying that their gear was the best there has ever been, or that their's was completely different to anyone else's...

One such item was a small album manufactured in Australia, being distributed exclusively by C4T, called 'Simply Slip-in'.

Their approach was to keep it simple and appeal to the nofrills market. They decided to keep the range small and offer a limited choice to the buyer. The albums are generally well made and are aimed primarily at the portrait photographer. They also suggest that the albums might suit a small preview album for the wedding photographer, although the cost may be a little steep for most studios to use them in this way.

The album range comes in 7"x5", 7"x7" and 10"x10" sizes and they comprise a simple slip-in matt, with the print inserted from the position of the spine. This is easy and uncomplicated and there is no danger of prints slipping out, due to the position of the entry point. Stock albums range from 12- to 40-sides depending on the size of album and they are available in linen, leather-look or bonded leather, with ivory, black or two-tone grey colours.

My verdict is that the albums have too few pages and are a little expensive to be used effectively as a wedding proof album, although this didn't stop some enterprising soul from 'lifting' my review copy shortly after beginning this article!

Someone obviously thought it was well worth the risk and they could do well as add-on sales to wedding photographer as an alternative parents' album. The most useful in the range will be the 10"x10", 12-side album to use as a portrait portfolio. This album currently is listed at £75 ex VAT. All you need to do is supply the prints and sell it on with a suitable mark-up. The fixed numbers of pages may be a little constricting, although there are whispers that variations could be accommodated by special order.

The albums are neat, well made, simple to use and offer a cost effective alternative to expensive print and bind or designer albums. Albums are supplied ex stock and can be obtained by contacting C4T on 01296 728555 or email sara@c4t.biz.
