Accent Lights: a random, odd selection of small 150-250 watt accent lights were used, two and three at a time, to provide the excitement and speculars in this style of portraiture. Most often these small accent lights are placed in the rear quadrant of the subject's lighting area. All accent lights are used at one full stop above whatever is selected as your keylight setting. These accent lights are often feathered away from the subject while avoiding the camera lens flare. Here is an example of the value of a good lens shade (but, tape, cardboard gobo, tubing, etc. might be necessary to protect the lens from the possibility of flare in the diagram shown. Shooting with several accent lights without a lens shade is asking for destructive lens flare. Note: when using Edge-Light as accent lighting, I find it best to remove the interior light-diffusing baffles, thus gaining a greater degree of exciting, controllable specular highlights.

There are competitions to participate in, offering outstanding prizes for the winners - the main competition is the Digital Photo Competition in which delegates submit on-line images which are judged by a number of the tutors with the 30 short-listed finalists being printed to a high standard by One Vision Imaging and taken out to the location for exhibiting. All entries receive a constructive critique at the event. Three categories are available, Portrait, Wedding and Open, winners receive magnificent trophies sponsored by The Societies together with great PR opportunities. In addition there will be other competitions throughout the week with excellent prizes; for example a Fuji camera and an Epson colour printer are on offer.
The training week is rounded off by a superb end of week party which takes the form of a dinner with entertainment and presentations. For details of PTO 2014, the training programme, the sponsoring companies who are represented, the competitions and information on all the tutors please visit www.pto-uk.com where you will also find a downloadable booking form.
