Overall then this was a promising start to the Sihl excursion into the professional photographic market. The paper will find a following from those who need a weighty paper with saturated colours, high gloss and high Dmax. The very particular user is probably going to need a bespoke profile or some testing to get the best from this cool paper.
4802 Silk Gloss 300gsm
This is a silk finish 300gsm media with overall properties (apart from gloss) that resemble its stable mate. There is a slight loss of Dmax, the Granger Chart remained ragged with the Sihl profile and the metamerism was again low. The media was used to create a very nice, neutral monochrome print and we preferred it overall to the gloss offering - apart from any other consideration, it was less susceptible to marking during handling.
Summary
The good points are the very high Dmax of the blacks, good weight, high(ish) gamut volume and fast drying. You can take your own counsel on the OBA loading. On the one hand it gives bright prints, on the other, it pales the skin tones and will be more vulnerable to yellowing. It is certainly worth a look at though.
