"First off, I'll be talking at the Business School on the Wednesday, telling delegates there how to become skilled at running a sustainable business in a very competitive market. I'll be showing how to devise a pricing structure for your services and looking at how best to market your brand as a business. With many of us accepting lower earnings simply because we do something we love, we are continually affected by cash-flow issues. My message is that you should be running your business like a business, and you need to take the emotion out of it.
"My first Superclass will be on the Friday, and it will cover the subject of fusing fashion with wedding photography. Many high-end clients are very aware of fashion. Most of them own a wardrobe of the best designer labels - and the leading wedding gown designers themselves use top fashion photographers to showcase their brands. I'll be showing how I use editorial fashion photography lighting and posing techniques to create wedding images that look like they belong in glossy magazines such as Vogue or Harper's Bazaar.
"Finally on the Saturday, I'll be finishing up with a Masterclass on Business Marketing Branding. Marketing is such a crucial aspect of running a successful business. It isn't enough to be a very talented photographer shooting great images - it's getting the right client that counts. This session will outline to delegates some inexpensive marketing techniques that work, and I'll also be looking to show people how to create their own unique brand."
With this being his first time at the Convention, Brett is intending to take the time to enjoy the experience and to get the full benefit of being involved in such an all-encompassing learning environment. "There are definitely some workshops and Masterclasses that I'll be looking to get along to," he says. "I'm looking forward to hearing Mark Seymour, who's going to be talking about street photography, as well as Brett Harkness, who's talking about how he set up his highly successful wedding photography business. I enjoy hearing about the approach of other photographers, and learning from their experiences."
It promises to be quite a hectic few days for Brett, but he's relishing the chance to be a part of it all and, who knows, it might be the start of a long and beautiful relationship!
