There are six canvas media in the range and they cover some quite subtle variations. They are:
Artistic Canvas 400gsm
Photo Matt Canvas 350gsm
Photo Semi-Gloss Canvas 350gsm
Fine Art Matt Canvas 360gsm
Fine Art Semi-Gloss Canvas 360gsm
Fine Art Super Gloss Canvas 400gsm
There is a large span of Dmax values with Artistic Canvas being the lowest and Fine Art Super Gloss the highest by some margin. This is one group that we have previouslytested in some depth and so we have 'form' to compare data with. It also saved us the trouble of exploring the effect of varnishing the canvas. It is likely that most users will finishtheir artwork with a coating or two of varnish although such is the 'pop' of the Super Gloss that it does not need it for image enhancement, simply for surface protection.
Artistic Canvas and Super Gloss have OBAs, but Artistic Canvas is unusual in that the OBA lift is actually negative. In other words the average base reflectance is higher thanthat in the blue part of the spectrum. The OBA activity in the UV booth is, however, quite high. The underlying canvas is very creamy, far more so than the other five media. Thediscrepancy sent us scurrying back to our archive data on the media, but this only confirmed that we had repeated what we saw last time, the base tone colourimetry wasalmost identical.
The data does show that the 3880 performed better than the 4800 although we have no way of knowing if it was the printer or the profiling. Our earlier tests also failed to create
