Time Served - part 2 of 1 2 3 4 5

I used the internet for my research and found someone offering wedding photography training so I booked a place on the course and went along over two weekends to learn what I could. This gave me a very basic grounding in what photographing a wedding actually involved. I also bought lots of books and read up online as much as I could and practised my photography on my husband and children.

I had no idea where to get wedding albums from so I spent a long time searching the internet for suppliers.

I then stumbled across the SWPP and joined. For me training and qualifications have always been important. It is something to be measured by and confirmation that my work is of a certain standard. The SWPP gave me something to aim for with the qualifications and access to a wealth of information on suppliers and training resources.

I photographed my first wedding in 2006, like many people who will be reading this I emailed many other wedding photographers asking if I could assist for free and every single one turned me down.

To be honest I do now understand why and I tend to do the same, having someone that you don't know come along on a wedding with you can be more of a distraction and hindrance than a help, especially if you already have an assistant who works with you on weddings !
