General Advice on Booking a Wedding Photographer

When it comes to choosing a photographer for your special day, there is a lot to consider. Please view these important points below to help you with your decision making.

Insurance
Make sure the photographer has Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance. These will protect you, as well as the photographer, should something happen on the day.

Contract
All clients should sign a contract with their photographer for their wedding photography.
This is to help confirm in writing what is expected of the photographer and the couple.
It should include the total amount payable, what products and services are to be included, timescales, image usage, copyright statements, and a cancellation policy as a minimum.

Are they a member of a photographic Trade Association?
We would also recommend checking to see if the photographer is a member of a photographic trade association and holds qualifications with that body. The Society of Photographers provide continuous professional development and a qualification structure to help photographers continually improve their craft. We also have a code of conduct that all members agree to upon application.

It is also important to look at other things such as:

Style
Do you want a photojournalistic photographer or more formal posed photographs? Have you looked at the photographer gallery of other images, do you like their style?

Personality
Remember the photographer plays a big part in your wedding and having someone you can get on with, will make you feel relaxed. This will make your special day even more enjoyable and the photos will come out more natural.

Past client Reviews
We recommend that you check out Google Reviews, TrustPilot, Facebook, etc. and look for genuine reviews of the photographers in your area from past clients to get a clear idea of the service they offer.

Does the photographer provide the service you want?
Some photographers provide a digital only service, whereas other photographers provide a completed wedding album with printed products.

If you are looking to order an album or printed products, speak with your photographer and agree a timescale before signing the contact.

Wedding Photo Checklist
It is also great to talk to your photographer about what pictures you may want shooting on the day. Are there any special relatives / friend attending? Is there a special reason you chose a particular venue?
By having clear communication with your photographer will help them capture all those special moments that mean so much to you.

Conclusion

Remember the photographs will last a lifetime and will be passed down through generations, so make sure you choose the right photographer to capture those beautiful memories of your special day.
