Tell us a little about your background, your first camera and photographic experience and your subsequent emergence as a pro.

Why photography?
I was given my first DSLR camera (Nikon D40) for my 50th birthday plus a trip to South Africa. The resulting images made me fall in love with photography and subsequent obsession with wildlife photography.

Film or digital? Is there still a place for silver halide?
Since taking photography seriously, I have only known digital so it has to be digital for me. I know very little about the ‘film days’ and so couldn’t comment in a meaningful way

Which camera?
As my first camera was a Nikon, I have seen little need to change brands. Not long after receiving the Nikon D40, I purchased a D90. Then, mainly due to a friend selling their camera I bought their D3. This was followed by a D4 and most recently I sold the D4 and now have a D5. As a backup camera I have a D750. Really tempted by the D850 - sounds amazing.

Bit of detail about your own studio set-up/staffing. Why (as a customer) would I choose you?
I don’t have a studio or staff requirement. Wildlife photography is more of a reactive genre in that I try to make money from images I’ve already taken as opposed to clients booking my services.

The problem with professional photographers today is...
People like me! Digital cameras have allowed anyone and everyone to enter the market. Not everyone is able to become professional however, with many people taking images and willing to give them away or sell for very cheap prices, it has made being a ‘professional’ and ‘making a living from Photography’ two different things.
