Tell us a little about your background, your first camera and photographic experience and your subsequent emergence as a pro.
First entered photography commercially in 2006, and full time in 2008 following a obsession with photography from a child.
Why photography?
There is no other activity you can do anywhere at anytime at any place. The thrill of making a great image is as fresh today fro me as it ever was when I first started out.
Film or digital? Is there still a place for silver halide?
Digital, still a place for film, but I personally don’t have the time to invest in shooting film.
Which camera?
Sony A9 and A7R2
Bit of detail about your own studio set-up/staffing. Why (as a customer) would I choose you?
I have a small studio I work from that is staffed by my wife and I, most of our work is location based so this suits our needs.
The problem with professional photographers today is...
Everybody is one. Digital cameras have made photography easier and so it should do, but the craft and skill of photography should never be forgotten, that is why I am a big believer in continual training, and why the convention is the first date on my calendar every year.
What’s the worst commercial error you have made to date?
Not charging enough! Its a mistake I think we all make at times.
How did you rectify the mistake?
Charged more next time.
The lessons learnt?
Cost your work accurately, and never undersell the value of your work. It takes a long time and lot of time and financial investment to reach the level we operate at, and that should be rewarded financially when shooting commercially.
