The Synology NAS (Network Attached Storage)
We wrote up the build and installation of this system of storage back in December 2015 and the two boxes have been ticking along for 14 months. We have implemented a workflow in which the NAS box acts as primary storage and, because the interface is reasonably fast, it acts also as the day-to-day working storage. This has made the transition from the old Dell workstation to Donald relatively simple: the external USB devices have been plugged directly into the Synology and the Dell sits on-line via Remote Desktop while we gather the little snaggy files that always get left behind, such as templates and actions. Data security is enhanced with the VPN Tunnel to an identical Synology stored off-site and a variety of backup protocols can be implemented.

RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum 32GB Kit DDR4 3200MHz Memory
We specified 32GB of RAM partly to future-proof the machine should we wish to move into video and/or more time-lapse.

We chose the Corsair Dominator, a pricey but fast option, complete with blingy lights that we will never see in our metal case! The massive cooling devices attached to the RAM clips are impressive, but caused a few headaches when fitting up the mother board (they clattered into the CPU cooler). We are OK using just two of the RAM slots, but four would prove tricky!
