Your own mentors (living or dead)?
I don’t really have any at the moment. I just keep my eye out for pieces of anything that inspires me and then try to incorporate that into something that is my own vision. Its getting harder and harder these days to stay unique and identifiable and that is what I strive for. Following a particular photographer only makes that more difficult. Its hard to know where their idea ends and yours began if you follow anyone too closely.

Who today is leading the way in creative social photography and why?
I really don’t know because as I said above, I try not to follow others.

If you could pick just FIVE seminars (other than your own of course!) to attend at The Societies of Photographers Convention whose workshops would you attend?

  • Panikos Hajistilly-Lighting on the Edge: This man really knows his stuff and is currently at the top of his game. He will give open and honest instructions that will help in producing stunning work that stands out for the norm.
  • Gurvir Johal - Wedding Portraits in Less than 15 Minutes: Gurvir produces stunningly beautiful wedding portraits. Although I don’t shoot weddings I can always use inspiration in posing and lighting and he does both very well.
  • Audrey Kelly - Producing Fine Art Images: Audrey is someone else who creates incredibly beautiful portraits and hers often includes a story. I’d love to learn a little about her inspiration and technique.
  • Claire-Louise- Are you Ready to Leave Your Mark on This World?: Claire-Louise is a highly inspiration person full of positivity who is sure to motivate anyone who attends.
  • Magdalena Sienicka - Pastel Child Portraiture: The styling in her portraits is out of this world. Definitely a great class for inspiration.

What do you think will be the next big thing in the industry?
I couldn’t say. I’m just working on my own stuff.

Would you want your own children to take up the reins of your empire (or have they)?
Not unless they wanted to. Photography, although great fun, is incredibly difficult to succeed at. If my daughter wanted to I’d support her entirely, but I’d never encourage her otherwise.

Your plans for the next five years?
Any plans I have I tend to keep secret until I’m ready to implement them. This is business after all.
