Overall then, the increased numbers of location seminars and outdoor shoots were a real hit this year. Blessed with good sunshine, lovely models and a (near) absence of jobsworths things went remarkably smoothly - we counted them out and counted them back several times! Next year promises to be even better on this score, there are some great locations around the Hilton including the canal basin and Little Venice - the scouts have already been out!
The Convention dinner itself was the usual glittering affair, hosted once again by Philippa Forrester. For the first time this year the judges provided a panel of their own work to entertain the waiting diners. The jazz band was superb, but nothing compared to the floor show provided by Joe Smith, Albert (Snakehips) DeMarco and Louise Sumner as they tangoed around the floor. I never realised what an abundance of dance talent lay untapped in the Societies' reserves!
The qualifications saw two new Fellows elected, Richie Walton and Roman Melnyk. Both panels were greatly admired, but radically different: Richie's was edgy, challenging and adventurous compared with Ronan's which was classical and subtle with soft pinks and flowing shapes in his dancers.
Both panels will be featured in future issues of Professional Imagemaker. Both new Fellows were welcomed on stage at the Awards dinner to receive the acclaim of their peers.
So that is it for another year, on many fronts the best Convention yet and an exciting new venue to look forward to next year - the countdown clock is already ticking!
