CONCLUSIONS

The EFI Fiery RIP does what it sets out to do, although the sophistication comes at a price. The XF software, including the ColorVerifier costs a little over £1,000 but excludes a measuring instrument. X-Rite do not sell the Eye One spectrophotometer without its software and so this will set you back another £1,450 or so, again depending upon the options you choose.

Choosing the options you would like (or need) is a bit of a minefield and so the best advice is to talk to Colour Confidence from the outset. Even these are not your only choices. You can achieve bespoke profiling, proof auditing and image nesting by purchase of i1 Publish and, say, the Epson Mirage system (which streamlines the workflow and nests). If all you need to do is nest images and simplify your workflow then Mirage is all that you need, providing you are happy with standard profiles. Even less expensive is to use the Layout Manager available in the Epson printer drivers using Windows. It is available on the 4900 upwards and the R3000, check your documentation before you go looking for it - it is free!
