'London is so inspiring,' Emma-Jane says to me enthusiastically. 'There is so much going on, although it can be overwhelming sometimes when you've just moved from a quaint little village in the countryside!' Emma-Jane spends her free time seeking out artwork in places such as Brick Lane and Portobello. 'There's so much to see and there's always places to meet people and network. I've really enjoyed getting out of my comfort zone and pushing myself to really make progress with my career.'
It's often said that careers in fashion are about who you know as much as what you know, so I wanted to find out how Emma-Jane has been finding new clients and meeting people to work with since moving. 'Social media has been key. I've found sites such as Meetup and LinkedIn have really allowed me to begin networking with other creatives. I try to make friends with everybody that I meet.' Of course meeting just a couple of key people can really open the doors to introductions to others as Emma-Jane has found. Connections made through social media have often been worth their weight in gold, leading to Emma-Jane writing for online magazines and shooting look-books for designers. Joining a PR agency was also a good way for Emma-Jane to become more involved with shooting for the fashion industry, as well as picking up some wedding and magazine commissions along the way too!
