The Wilhelm tests project a 76 year life for K3 inks on Enhanced Matte paper, under glass.
The only niggle about the performance was the slight patchiness of solid areas of black but otherwise this was another excellent result in both mono and colour.
These media all require the use of the Photo Black which required an ink change procedure before we could start. This is described separately. Initially we were surprised when the "x800" series of printers was announced without the use of Gloss Optimiser from the 1800 and 800 series of printers. However the K3 inks contain High-gloss Microcrystal Encapsulation Technology, ie built in Glop! The idea is to get around the problem of bronzing on gloss papers. Bronzing is the effect of an iridescent glow in the shadows and a reversal of visual density, such that deeper blacks appear lighter than their neighbours.
