"Candida, now known as Lady Petersham, lives just 20 minutes from me, and she's a creative person herself, working as a sculptress. She's very keen to do anything she can to help other local talent, and she called me up after receiving my email and we talked about what I was looking for, after which she very kindly gave me the go-ahead to do what I wanted. She also told me that it would be the first time that anyone had ever used this setting as the background for a photo shoot.
"I realised that I couldn't take on anything like this on my own and so I then had to do some networking to put together a team for the shoot. In the end I worked with an all-girl team, which included a stylist, someone to do hair and make-up, and an assistant for me. My model was Jodie Noble (aka Ravenember), a local girl with over 14 years' experience, and I knew that she would be just perfect for this shoot."
The setting proved inspiring and Jules and her team were given free rein to explore their ideas and to really go to town to achieve the vintage feel they were after. "We achieved some really amazing pictures," says Jules, "and I later sent a set over to Candida to thank her for allowing us to use her home in this way. She came back to me and told me that she loved the photographs and thought that they looked really modern and exciting, particularly considering that the backdrops were from the old world! I thought it was a lovely comment and it was wonderful to get that feedback.
When Aberdeen-based photographer Jules Macdonald wanted to create some exciting new fashion work she recruited a formidable team of creative all-girl talent to work alongside her on the projects
"Candida went on to recommend me to a local primary school who were working on a photography project, and I visited them and talked about my photography and my business, and got to judge their photography competition.
It was really fun to work with such young children who were so interested in what photography is all about. I'm also going to be attending some of Candida's wedding open days, where she'll be promoting her estate for hire for wedding parties. She's such a lovely woman, and I look forward to working with her again soon, and the networking this shoot has helped me to achieve has been really important for me." Working with the team again
