It's the kind of dedication that so many small businesses will recognise only too well, and Keith returned from the hospital only to get stuck straight back into the workload. The hard work paid off, however, and by making sure that he also focused at least some of his attention on the major Kodak and Fujifilm Awards that were on offer at the time Keith also started to taste success and to build his reputation.
"My background was in the darkroom," he says, "and although the volume of work I was doing meant that I had to send most of my wedding work out to a pro lab I still made sure I took time to work on my best pictures so that I could enter them into competitions. I loved the whole feel of the darkroom and really miss it in these digital times: you could go in there and shut yourself away for a few hours and then come out at the end of it all with some prints that you were really proud of."
Keith's picture taking skills married to his printing expertise was a combination that saw him have a virtual monopoly on the big photographic prizes throughout the 1990s, and he only missed out on the big prizes on a handful of occasions. It was a golden period, and during that time his family was growing and his children were starting to take an interest in photography in their own right.
