"However, I still feel that word of mouth will always be the most powerful and best avenue to reach a qualified audience. I've always believed that the more value you give someone, the more value they will give to you. Certainly social networking has made the world a very small place but regretfully, it has also made the world a very impersonal place. There is still nothing like meeting someone face to face, seeing their expression, hearing their tone of voice and developing a relationship. That is why I always like to be in front of people as much as I can. At the same time The Ice Society remains the most convenient way for a photographer to learn from me regularly."
Plans for the future include bespoke products, such as the Ice Light, which are designed to tap into Jerry's experience of problem solving on a shoot. "I'm really excited about the launch of this," he says. "It's a portable, dimmable continuous LED light source unlike any other on the market. Its point of difference is its tangibility and its design - it's cylindrical and is super bright. I often describe it as having a portable window light with you on location. I had been shooting with video lights for many years and I realised many of the features that I wished I could have on these lights simply did not exist. So I eventually designed a light that would have all of the features I would want to have available on a shoot. With the help of Westcott, the light is now available to anyone worldwide."
If photographers could take just one simple message away from one of Jerry's workshops, what would the man himself want it to be? "There are a few key messages that I hope everyone is able to take away from a workshop," he says. "Focus as much, if not more, on the business rather than on the creative elements of photography. Don't judge your success based on other photographers' successes. You don't have to be the best, you just have to be better than last week. Respect the craft. Above all else, if you want to be a better photographer, be a better person."
Already that January workshop is looking like it's going to be quite an experience, so sign up now and take the opportunity to experience the full force of Jerry Ghionis for yourself!
