If you've never been to Malta then I would advocate a visit, if only to experience the sheer chaos of driving through the streets of the island. Fortunately I was only a passenger as we we're met at the airport and hurtled through the traffic by the one and only Charles Calleja and his team of helpers. A pleasure in arriving on Malta is seeing the different quality of light you get there. It reminds you that although you're in the Med, Africa is not far away. The other reminder was that having left the grey and dreary morning of Manchester, it was in the high 20s on the island and humid. A quick unpack and then off to explore the town of St Julian's. With no work to do on arrivals day it was good to have a walk around followed by a leisurely lunch by the ocean with Phil, Juls and Tom Lee, who along with his wife Karen are regular visitors to the MIPP events.

Friday started bright and early as my regular partner-in-crime Nikki and I were leading a group of photographers around a park in Floriana for a shoot. Around 40 photographers turned out and so it was no little challenge to make sure everyone could hear, understand and get in position to explore the range of lighting options we were providing. There was a nice mix of hard and soft light available as well as a good range of locations. Great to see familiar faces in the crowd as well as having the chance to meet a new generation of Maltese photographers.
