The colour audit statistics were good, straddling either side of the average for all profiled media sampled to date.

Dmax was good at 2.24 and the metamerism was excellent at a CII of 1.34 and 1.71 (see tables). The HiGAM colour lost just one half per cent on saturation, allied to a large gamut measuring above the one million mark.

Overall then, excellent shooting for a brightened paper, with mainly average or better than average stats and no vices to report on. The fine art printers might baulk at the OBAs, but for proofing, short-term exhibition prints and less demanding longevities, with a lower life expectancy, they fit the bill nicely. With no OBAs we would not anticipate any yellowing on the Matt Fibre pair.

The skin tones are well within the saturation capabilities of the Matt Fibre paper and the neutral base tone delivers more accurate values. In the table, above right, the errors in the skin tone set are the best of the bunch.

Monochrome

We did a quick reference test using the Epson ABW driver.

The mid-tone density measurements for a print made using 'Normal' tone was 3% too light; so the Normal and Dark settings straddle perfect mid-tone reproduction. Using a 'Neutral' tone colour setting produced a 50% grey at 53%/0.09/-4.8 which is about halfway to the base tone of 2.17a, -9.4b. Between 4 and 8 points setting on the ABW vertical scale would bring about a perfect match but, as ever, personal preferences and differences in printers would require slight tweaking. The Dmax of the ABW print was very high indeed at 2.53, metamerism was slightly up on the colour print at 2.36 (CII 50% grey D65 to Tungsten A ΔE00).
