Robin is also passionate about applying what he has learned through landscape photography to wedding days: 'I like to think about why a couple has chosen a place to get married in, so I try to photograph them in the landscape near to their wedding venue. It tells a story and gives a sense of place to where they are being married.' Couples really appreciate it when Robin has put in the extra work on a wedding day to calculate the best times and locations to photograph at: 'When you tell them that, for instance, the moon is about to pop up over the hill in about 30 seconds, they really like that. And of course being prepared and understanding the direction of events such as the moon rising and where the sun will set can help you plan in advance how to compose your shot.'
If delegates only take away one thing from his Masterclass, Robin hopes that it will be a new-found confidence to follow their own path. 'Competitions in particular can be quite cruel to landscape photographers,' Robin tells me. 'But if you're photographing for yourself rather than a client you can go out there, photograph for yourself, and enjoy it!'
