When I set my company up back in 2006, I didn't even know what the SWPP was. It wasn't until my good friend and former boss while working on cruise ships, Paul Schillings, won International Architecture Photographer of the Year at the 2009 Convention, I asked him about it and he said pure and simple, "you must join, it's awesome! We'll go to the Convention, it'll be a laugh". I joined at the Focus on Imaging show the following April, and I've never really looked back.
It wasn't until the January of 2011 that I attended my first Convention at the old venue, the Novotel in Hammersmith. Not knowing what to expect, we travelled up from Essex every day; which doesn't sound far, but getting across London for an 8am Masterclass isn't fun! I arrived, tired, a little bit lost and confused on where I had to go. I'd booked a few classes, even a location seminar, but I still didn't know what it was all about, but the buzz around the venue was amazing. I was hooked.
The next two Conventions passed with a blur, seeing amazing speakers such as Kevin Wilson, Adam Alex, Jerry Ghionis to name but a few, and leaving their classes totally inspired to improve myself in the up and coming wedding season. I couldn't believe I was seeing such a wealth of photographic knowledge for, basically, pennies!
